According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Atlanta Braves have agreed to a deal with infielder Sean Rodriguez, pending a physical. The deal is worth $11.5 million, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
The Braves have had quite a busy offseason as they've also signed veteran pitchers R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon to deals earlier this offseason. Atlanta, who is preparing for their debut at SunTrust Park in 2017, are trying to put together a team that can make it to the postseason after putting up a dismal 68-93 record this season. The last time they reached the postseason was in 2013 with Fredi Gonzalez as manager.
Rodriguez, 31, had a career year for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016, hitting .270/.349/.510 with 18 home runs in 342 plate appearances. Rodriguez played the last two seasons with the Pirates including stints with the Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays during his nine-year career.
Throughout the season, he played first and second base, outfield, but also has experience with shortstop and third base making him a versatile bench player for the Braves new manager Brian Snitker.null
