The Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres are among the teams who have checked in on right-handed reliever Neftali Feliz, according to a report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Feliz, 28, found himself non-tendered last year and signed on with the Pittsburgh Pirates for $3.9 million. He rewarded the Pirates with a strong 3.52 ERA, along with a pretty solid 10.2 K/9.
The Blue Jays have been known to be looking for some middle relief help. Aaron Loup, Ryan Tepera, Bo Schultz and Mike Bolsinger all project to fill the last four bullpen spots for the Jays. Cumulatively, the four posted a 5.31 ERA through 72 and 2/3 innings pitched. Feliz would provide some affordable and stable depth for the Jays’ pen.
While the Padres aren’t necessarily competing in 2017, Feliz could be a strong option to contribute in a set-up capacity. Feliz could also provide a trade chip in July. The Padres have a young bullpen, consisting of Ryan Buchter, Jose Torres, Kevin Quackenbush, Brandon Maurer and Keith Kessler. Adding Feliz as an experienced arm would do the Friars well.null
