One of the Indians' best hitters from last season — Mike Napoli — is up for grabs and many teams are trying to grab him before it is too late.
Mike Napoli is a solid player at the plate and an average defender. During the 2016 season, Napoli posted average numbers, but seemed to have his power all throughout, slashing .239/.335/.465 with 34 home runs and 101 runs batted in. The slash line doesn't show anything special, but the HR's and RBI's seemed to hold up having the most on the Indians by the end of the Regular season.
Defensively, in the 2016 season, Mike Napoli started in 98 games and posted a .985 fielding percentage, but also committing 13 errors at the same time. So after looking over those numbers it should make whatever team that wants to acquire him think just a bit.
Multiple reports have linked the Texas Rangers to Napoli with the Indians signing Encarnacion, as I think they would best fit the free agent. It would make sense, as Mike Napoli could fill the DH/1B role for the Rangers, giving them yet another weapon to bolster their lineup.
Another reason why Texas should sign Napoli is that Mitch Moreland — the longtime Ranger — signed a deal with the Boston Red Sox, so that leaves the Rangers with another empty spot they need to fill. Mike Napoli seems to be destined to sign with the 2016 American League West champions before the 2017 season.null
