The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with Cuban infielder Luis Yander La O on a minor league contract with a signing bonus worth $110,000, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com. La O, now 25, has been on the market for a while now, and should slot into the upper levels of the Rangers’ minor league system.
La O is a strong contact hitter and is said to be very good defensively, where he is likely to slot in at second. With good speed to go along with the aforementioned tools, La O profiles as either a second division major league regular, or a strong utility infielder in the major leagues.
Unfortunately for La O, he lacks power, and his on-base percentage seems to be a question mark. For $110,000, O could prove to be a significant bargain for the Rangers’ organization.
