Miami Marlins Claim Christian Colon Off Waivers From Kansas City Royals

World Series hero Christian Colon finds new home with Miami.

The Miami Marlins have claimed Infielder Christian Colon from the Kansas City Royals today. In a corresponding move, the club has designated utility man Steven Lombardozzi for assignment.

Lombardozzi went without a hit in a brief taste of the majors this season, and hit an underwhelming .250/.289/.317 line at Triple-A. The only reason he was called upon at all was out of pure desperation. Colon will give the Marlins a bit more depth for their injury ravaged infield.

Colon, remembered both as a 1st round bust and a world series hero, has hit just .176/.222/.176 this season over 17 plate appearances. Overall, he has hit .263/.323/.329 over four seasons with the Royals. Colon also brings strong infield defense and versatility with the ability to play second, third and short in a pinch.

At the very least, Colon will give the Marlins some much needed infield depth while Prado, Riddle, Hech and Rojas are all on the mend.
