Rookies on the Rise: Amed Rosario

In exclusive: Rookies on the Rise, insider Carmine DiPalma will showcase a different prospect weekly that could make the jump to the next level.

The Mets have struggled out of the gate this season currently in second place behind the Nationals by a whopping 9 1/2 games.

A main area of their struggles has been at the shortstop position. Asdrubal Cabrera who is currently spending the majority of the time at shortstop for the Mets is batting .243 which is respectable however has played an abysmal shortstop committing 8 errors in only 43 games.

Rosario who is the Mets top prospect, is hitting .339 at AAA with 43 RBI’s and 6 home runs. As recent as last week, Mets GM Sandy Alderson went to Salt Lake City to watch Amed Rosario live in action.

“Interestingly, I think the players are aware of Rosario’s performance,” said Alderson.

Potential Lineup:

  1. LF Michael Conforto

  2. SS Amed Rosario

  3. RF Jay Bruce

  4. 2B Neil Walker

  5. 1B Lucas Duda

  6. 3B Jose Reyes

  7. CF Curtis Granderson

  8. C Travis d’Arnaud

  9. Pitcher

With Rosario’s speed and ability to put the ball in play the Mets should try him immediately in the 2-hole. He would be able to get on base for the power guys and also steal bases and wreak havoc on the base paths.

The Mets are not close to contending right now especially not within the division so they should look into molding Rosario into their everyday shortstop for next season. He is also a better option than the guys that they are running out there right now so he could provide a little boost to the Mets recent play.
