2012 Draft Scouting Report: Kevin Gausman

Scouting Report

Gausman's stuff, when he's right, stacks up with any pitcher in the class. But, right now as just a draft eligible sophomore, inconsistency is a big issue. He typically works at 93-95 mph with his fastball, but he dropped to 90-92 at times with Team USA over the summer. Gausman is long, athletic and also has plenty of projection left. His 79-83 mph slider flashes plus bite but will need to show more consistency down the line. He gets good late bite and can miss bats consistently with both his fastball and breaking ball. We'll need to also see more development of his third pitch, however. All the components are there for Gausman to be a front end arm but he's far from a finished product. And, being able to repeat his delivery will be a big step in the right direction for him.
