Scouting Report

Undoubtedly the Rangers' coaching staff is already hard at work on Cone's swing. While his raw tools impress in batting practice, he does show significant holes that will need to be patched as a pro. He tends to get his upper body a little too involved and his swing gets long at times. However, he does show easy loft to the middle of the field and to his pull side. The lift is built into his swing and power should be no issue for him as a professional.

Cone figures to remain a slightly better than average runner and a plus athlete. He's physically mature and doesn't figure to pack on too much weight in the coming years. He'll play a corner outfield spot and has the strong arm to handle right field. Whether he can transition from raw athlete at the plate to a refined, complete hitter remains to be seen. Although he comes from the college ranks, he will require some patience as his swing mechanics are worked on.
