Playoff Predictions: Yankees/Tigers

2011 figures to be a postseason loaded with outstanding playoff matchups. There are teams with loaded pitching staffs, powerful offenses, and deep bullpens. There are also teams with perhaps less talent that are riding a tremendous wave of momentum. With that said, predictions need to be made. Here's a look at the ALDS matchup between the Yankees and Tigers.

Tigers (5 Games)

This may be the most difficult series to handicap of all the division series. So much is riding on how each team's ace performs in game one and beyond that it might be an all out free for all between two outstanding teams. Justin Verlander is entering the postseason much hotter than CC Sabathia and I'd look for that trend to continue. The Yankee offense will perform well beyond game one, but Ivan Nova's inexperience is worrisome in game two.

A lot will fall on Freddy Garcia in game three, but the middle of that Detroit order may be too much to handle. This series will come down to which club gets more out of the back of their rotation. Ultimately, I see the Tigers taking it in five tight games.
