AFL Scouting Report: Anthony Bass

Scouting reports are the foundation of the talent evaluation system, and clubs don't stop scouting players once they enter the pros. As part of our Arizona Fall League coverage here at Scout.com, we'll be providing team quality first-hand scouting reports on prospects from around the league. Here's a look at Padres' prospect, Anthony Bass.

Scouting Report

Bass shows off an explosive fastball with life through the zone. He works steadily at 93-96 mph and gets it up to 97 mph now and then. His velocity does dip somewhat in the stretch to 92-94 mph. There's some effort to his delivery, but for the most part everything looks pretty clean. He has a slight back turn and a high kick, allowing him to hide the ball very well.

Bass also utilizes a solid and sometimes plus changeup at 82-84 mph with some downward fade. And, he gets some swings and misses on his short 84-86 mph slider. His changeup appeared to be his most effective pitch in AFL action, however. His fastball command needs improvement but given his potential for two plus pitches and deception, he could be a fit near the back of the bullpen.
