AFL Scouting Report: Stephen Fife

Scouting reports are the foundation of the talent evaluation system, and clubs don't stop scouting players once they enter the pros. As part of our Arizona Fall League coverage here at Scout.com, we'll be providing team quality first-hand scouting reports on prospects from around the league. Here's a look at Dodgers' prospect, Stephen Fife.

Name: Stephen Fife
Position: Pitcher
Team: Los Angeles Dodgers
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 210
Bats/Throws: R/R

Events Scouted: Arizona Fall League

Scouting Report

Fife is not an overpowering pitcher and is mostly going to rely on his fastball command and secondary pitches. He works steadily at 88-92 mph with his fastball and that fastball tends to flatten out on him up in the zone. He produces some occasional arm side run at 88-89.

Fife's changeup stands out, however. He showed excellent movement and downward fade at 81-84 mph and got some weak swings and groundballs. His slider appears to be a fringe-average pitch with short two plane action at 79-81 mph. Fife also needs to remain aggressive if he's going to be successful. He appears to have a tendency to nibble around the edges of the plate.
