AFL Scouting Report: Mike Olt

Scouting reports are the foundation of the talent evaluation system, and clubs don't stop scouting players once they enter the pros. As part of our Arizona Fall League coverage here at Scout.com, we'll be providing team quality first-hand scouting reports on prospects from around the league. Here's a look at Rangers' prospect, Mike Olt.

Scouting Report

What immediately stands out about Olt are his physical gifts. He's incredibly strong and he shows it before the game in batting practice and in the game. He stays inside the ball consistently at the dish and drives the ball to the gap the opposite way as well as any right-handed hitter in the minors. His swing has gotten more compact since college and his balance is outstanding. That balance is going to allow him to continue to move up quickly and do damage against advanced secondary pitches.

The ticket for Olt is clearly his big right-handed bat, but he's also a solid athlete with good hands in the infield. Given Texas' offensive strength, where he ends up on the field is a question, but he does have the physical skills required to play third base. But, this is a 25-30 home run bat who will drive in runs in the big leagues, and that profile plays anywhere on the diamond.
