Scouting Report

Chase Whitley by no means fits the typical reliever profile. He lacks the overpowering fastball and for that matter, he also lacks a true knockout secondary offering. But, what Whitley does have is pitchability and a number of different ways to get a hitter out. The tall righty works at 87-91 mph with his fastball, topping out around 92 in AFL action. The velocity doesn't stand out, but he's able to vary his movement and spot his fastball well to both sides of the plate.

The secondary pitches are where Whitley makes his living. He's the owner of a quality changeup that flashes plus potential at 80-83 mph. His breaking ball is also a solid offering, coming in at 79-82 mph with two plane action. Neither pitch is a true swing and miss offering on it's own, but together Whitley has a very deep and effective arsenal. He's not a guy who is going to pitch at the end of the game, but he has enough going for him to contribute in a big league bullpen.
