Winter Meetings Buzz: Day Three Rumors

DALLAS, Texas -- The winter meetings have been dominated by Albert Pujols' name thus far, but late Tuesday night some trade rumors began to create a wave of buzz as well. A handful of a clubs appear to be in hot pursuit of A's young lefty, Gio Gonzalez and some of baseball's most powerful clubs may be in the mix.

- The winter meetings have not given us a blockbuster type trade just yet. But, the buzz is certainly building around Oakland A's southpaw, Gio Gonzalez. Word around the lobby is the Yankees, Phillies, and Tigers are all involved. Multiple industry sources indicated that the Texas Rangers would also be a fit. When it comes down to it, a club like the Yankees' will be unlikely to part with the type of package Oakland is seeking, but a team like Detroit or Philadelphia appear more willing to do that.

- There's typically little buzz about the Rule 5 draft, but there has been some this year. One name that has come up multiple times as a potential high pick is right-hander Philippe Valiquette of the Cincinnati Reds. He's certainly not a polished product, but he's also the owner of a fastball that reaches 100 mph.

- It turns out that the Texas Rangers' may not be out on C.J. Wilson after all. It still seems like somewhat of a longshot that he stays in Texas, but the talks have not broken off, from what I'm told, and they aren't as far apart as earlier assumed. The Angels, however, seem like they may just be that much more willing to go that extra mile in terms of years and money for his services.
