We're breaking down each of the top picks as they happen on draft day, with a combination of first-hand scouting reports from National Baseball Expert, Frankie Piliere, and quotes from scouts. Let's now take a look at Houston's top selection.

Carlos Correa

Position: Shortstop
School: Puerto Rico Baseball Academy
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 190
Bats/Throws: R/R

Expert's Take:

If there's anyone that's mildly skeptical about Correa it's this analyst. Correa gives you a tremendous athlete and huge upside, but there's definitely some risk involved when it comes to the hit tool. It's a risk you gamble on in the first round, but Correa does have some work to do at the plate. I watched him get beat by some better pitching last summer and get over matched at times. The potential is sky high, and if it clicks he's a five tool shortstop with 25 home run, but there's a risk involved.

Scout Quote:

"If you want to nitpick with this guy, there is a question mark about whether he'll stay at shortstop. Otherwise, there's a lot to rave about. The power potential is plus, he's a plus athlete and he looks like he's really going to swing the bat."

Ceiling: Perennial All-Star Shortstop (7)
