WWBA Scouting Capsule: Billy McKinney

As always, the WWBA World Championship provided numerous highlights that will have the scouting community buzzing going into the spring. Here's a scouting report on one of the talented players at the event, Billy McKinney.

BILLY MCKINNEY, OF, PLANO WEST SENIOR H.S. (Tex.)

McKinney appears to be a classic example of a player with above average tools as well as a superb feel for the game at a very young age. The first thing you notice about the lefty swinging outfielder is his plus athleticism and speed. He got down the line consistently below 4 seconds in Jupiter, and his jumps in center field were outstanding.

All those things are impressive, but it's still the bat that sets McKinney apart. He made hard contact as frequently as any player in Jupiter, and it went well beyond just singles. McKinney showed power to the gaps, giving us at least a hint that he could be a 20 home run bat as a professional.
