Before this last week, Ryan Raburn -- a new addition to the Cleveland Indians this offseason, when he signed a one-year, $1 million deal as a free agent-- was hitting .214 with no home runs, one RBI and five runs scored. Then came the Tribe's April 29 series finale against red-hot Kansas City.
Raburn went 4-for-4 that evening, blasting his first two homers of the year en route to a 9-0 win over the host Royals, kicking off a torrid week for the eighth-year veteran, who's spent time both at third base and in the outfield for the Tribe this year.
Raburn's four RBI paced Cleveland that night, and over the next six days, he continued to be a serious threat at the bottom of the Indians lineup, knocking in three runs in a 14-2 win over Philadelphia and two more in a May 1 win over the Phillies.
Over the past week, Raburn has gone 13-for-22 (.591) in five games -- tops among all major leaguers with at least 20 at-bats in the past seven days -- with four home runs, nine RBIs and five runs scored.
Raburn's binge fueled the bulk of Cleveland's six-game winning streak with three straight games of at least three hits and two RBIs. Of the five games he played in, four were multi-hit games and two were multi-run games.
He had more extra-base hits than strikeouts, slugged .818, and rocketed past his 2012 homer total (one) while nearly equaling his 2012 RBI total (12). Only one other player had more homers than Raburn did – Los Angeles Angels slugger Mark Trumbo, with five -- and only three -- Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout and Prince Fielder -- had more RBI (10), while none of those four even came close to Raburn's .591 average (the closest was Cabrera's .423 week).
April 22-28: Jeff Locke
April 15-21: Mike Trout
April 8-14: Prince Fielder
