Hitting three homers in a game is one thing – well, more like three things – and stealing five bases in a single contest, well, that's how you get noticed as far as the Scout.com Player of the Week is concerned. But, this week's honoree is neither Dioner Navarro, nor Jacoby Ellsbury. Chances are, if you play fantasy baseball in a mixed league, this youngster is probably still a free agent.
This week's Scout.com Player of the Week is Domonic Brown, and over the past seven days, he's simply been the best offensive player in the Major Leagues.
Over the past week, Brown has hit seven home runs, driven in 13 RBIs, scored eight runs and stolen two bases, topping things off with a 3-for-3, four-RBI day on Sunday in a 7-5 win over Milwaukee, coming up just a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
While the Phillies have been scuffling over the past week, going 3-4, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound fourth-year outfielder has been white hot, going on a seven-game hitting streak during which he's gone 12-for-27 (.444).
Brown has quietly been having the best season of his career, more than doubling his career home run total with 16 jacks in 202 at-bats, nearly doubling his career RBI total (40 in 2013, 58 in 147 previous big league games), matching his single-season high of two triples and slugging what would be a career-best .574 (his previous single-season high in the bigs was .391).
On a team with aging offensive talent in Ryan Howard , Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley, and a badly slumping Delmon Young, Domonic Brown is well on his way to being regarded as the biggest threat in the middle of the Philadelphia lineup before all is said and done this season, already pacing the team in circuit shots, RBIs, batting average, slugging, OPS, hits and runs.
