POtW: Giancarlo Stanton

Could Giancarlo Stanton be in the midst of a bounce-back from early season struggles? The Miami Marlins went 5-2 over the past seven days, led by the hot hitting of their right fielder.

In the first full week after the All-Star break, there was just about no hitter better than Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton.

The fourth-year slugger paced the Major Leagues in on-base percentage (.581), slugging percentage (1.042), home runs (3) and doubles (5), while placing second in baseball in runs (7).

Stanton has now reached base safely in seven of his last nine games, doing most of his damage over the past five days. Over that span, Stanton has tallied at least two hits in each game, going 9-for-13 with five runs, four doubles and two home runs. Stanton has now notched at least one RBI in six of his last seven games.

As impactful as Stanton was with the lumber, he wasn't afraid to lay off anything out of the zone, drawing a Major League-best seven walks over the course of seven games while striking out just four times. Stanton hit .458 (11-for-24) over the past seven days, piling up a big-league best 25 total bases and eight extra-base hits.

Stanton's big week could be the turning point in what's been a forgettable season for the 6-foot-5, 233-pounder. As the Fish went 5-2, Stanton improved his yearlong average by .024 points. Stanton's big week comes on the heels of a dreadful stretch in which he went 1-for-16 with just two walks to seven strikeouts, and not a single extra-base hit.
