It wasn't easy to eclipse the week that Oakland's Josh Reddick had over the past seven days, with five home runs and eight RBIs and a .315 batting average, but Miguel Cabrera did just that.
The Detroit Tigers third baseman registered at least one base hit in each of the seven games he played from August 5-11, and drive in at least one run in all but one of those contests.
Cabrera paced the big leagues with his .429 batting average, slugging .714 with four home runs and two doubles. Cabrera was instrumental in leading the Motor City Kitties to a 5-2 record, including four straight wins over division rival Cleveland. With the Tigers down by a run in the top of the eighth inning against the Indians, Cabrera crushed a home run to deep center to plate two, giving the Tigers the lead, though that lead was short-lived, as Cleveland came back in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI groundout by Yan Gomes.
Detroit would go on to win that game by the tally of 6-5, and the very next night, Cabrera walked in the top of the third with the bases loaded to plate Ramon Santiago, touching off a six-run frame for Detroit. Cabrera later drove in a pair in the fifth on a two-out, two-on RBI single to left, putting the Tigers up by nine.
Including Monday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox, Cabrera has now hit safely in each of his last 10 games, and 13 of his last 15, during which he's hitting an even .400 (20-for-50) with two doubles, seven home runs and 16 RBIs.
