Scout Hot Sheet June 2-8: Adrian Beltre

Adrian Beltre was the most productive offensive player in the Major Leagues this past week, despite the fact that he barely had any help in front of him in the Texas Rangers lineup.

Of Adrian Beltre's Major League-leading eight RBIs this past week, five came in a single night against the Baltimore Orioles, when the Texas Rangers third baseman blasted two of his likewise league-leading three home runs (both off of Bud Norris) in a 6-5 losing effort.

Though much of Beltre's production came in that one night – a night on which he provided all of the offense for the Rangers -- he's been a hitting machine over the past seven days, tallying multiple hits and at least one run scored in five of his past six games, going 11-for-23 at the dish, with a big league-best .957 slugging percentage.

Of Beltre's 11 hits, five have gone for extra bases (leading to an MLB-best 22 total bases on the week), and the traditionally big-swinging infielder has only struck out twice in his past 24 plate appearances.

Beltre's .478 batting average over the past seven days is fourth among all Major Leaguers, as is his 1.415 OPS.

Despite Beltre's big week, the Rangers were just 2-4 over the past seven days, owing greatly to the injury of Prince Fielder and the inability of Shin Soo-Choo to get on base in front of the white-hot Beltre. In the past two games, Soo-Choo has gone a combined 0-for-8 hitting directly in front of Beltre, and leading off over the previous four games, he went just 1-for-12 with five walks from the leadoff spot.
