Morneau has hit in his last six straight, with multiple hits in four of the last six, but his 10 RBIs and three extra-base hits just weren't enough to surpass the Pittsburgh Pirates' Andrew McCutchen.
The Dreadlocked One hasn't been quite as hot as Morneau in the batting average department, hitting.482 (14-for-29), but he's been a one-man Army, all the same.
McCutchen is second in the Majors only to the Rockies' Troy Tulowitzki in on-base percentage, posting a robust .567 mark, and leads all comers with a 1.034 slugging percentage, helped by a big league-best four homers (tied with four others) and three doubles (tied for fifth in the Majors). The week that Major League Baseball launched an ad campaign centered around the Pittsburgh outfielder's luxurious locks, the Bucs have gone 5-2, with McCutchen driving in an MLB-best 13 runs, accounting for 15 of Pittsburgh's 35 runs over the past seven games, while stealing two bases and pacing both circuits with 30 total bases.
As if that weren't enough for McCutchen, he's also edged into the starting All-Star outfield, going from fourth place to second, sitting just behind mercurial the Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig.
