Rays, Jays complete minor trade

ANAHEIM – On an unusually quiet day at baseball's Winter Meetings, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Toronto Blue Jays completed a trade that won't even register a blip.

Right-hander Chad Gaudin was sent to the Blue Jays on Sunday in exchange for catcher Kevin Cash, a Tampa native.

The 21-year-old Gaudin was 1-2 with a 4.85 ERA in 28 games (four starts) for the Devil Rays last season. A 34th round selection of Tampa Bay in the 2001 draft, Gaudin was once the youngest pitcher in Devil Rays history when he made his Major League debut on Aug. 1, 2003 (20 years, 4 months).

Gaudin also pitched at Triple-A Durham in 2004, going 1-3 with a 4.72 ERA in 17 games (seven starts).

Cash, 27, hit .193 (35-181) with four homers and 21 RBI in 60 games (50 starts) for the Blue Jays in 2004. He is a career .173 hitter in 101 career major league games.
