The West Michigan Whitecaps dropped their series opener to Lake County, 4-2, and now must win two straight at Lake County to extend their season to the next round. Victor Larez got the start and took the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. Zach Samuels and Nate Newman kept the Captains off the board the rest of the game, but the offense couldn't get the team back. The Whitecaps got on the board in the fourth inning when Tony Plagman ripped a sacrifice fly that scored Jamie Johnson, and tacked on another in the sixth when Clay Jones was a hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. But despite the bases loaded and only one out, the 'Caps couldn't get another run home, and they'd manage just one baserunner over the final three innings. Corey Jones went 2-for-4 including a double and a run scored for the club as well. The 'Caps now face Lake County again on Thursday in an elimination game, with first pitch slated for 6:30.
