Despite some shaky defense and needing to use five pitchers, the Mud Hens pulled out a 5-4 victory over Columbus on Friday. Charlie Furbush got the start, giving up a run on two hits but walking four and striking out and six in 4 1/3 innings. Ryan Perry made a rehab appearance, allowing two runs, one earned, in 1 1/3 innings, while Fu-Te Ni picked up the win for being the pitcher on the mound when Toledo claimed the lead for good. Robbie Weinhardt pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to earn the win. Scott Sizemore had a pair of hits including a double and drove in two runs for the team, while Ryan Strieby also added two hits and an RBI.
The 'Wolves dropped their second straight one run game to Bowie, but this time it was a scoring fest, falling 9-8. Luke Putkonen got the start, giving up four runs (three earned) in five innings of work. However, Rob Waite allowed four runs in relief (just one earned) to lose the lead for the club. The game would remain tied from that point on until the 12th inning, when Chance Ruffin allowed the game winning run and took the loss. Bryan Pounds and Audy Ciriaco each belted home runs in the loss, Pounds a two run shot and Ciriaco a three run blast. Jamie Johnson also added a double and two RBI.
The Flying Tigers posted an identical score to Thursday night's game as they beat Daytona again 4-3. Jared Wesson got the win, giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings as the starter. Tyler Stohr, Ryan Robowski and Dan Gentzler then combined to keep the Cubs off the board the rest of the game. At the plate, Daniel Fields belted a solo home run while Tony Plagman added two hits and drove in three for Lakeland.
