Toledo kept rolling as they topped Syracuse 7-1 on Friday night. Adam Wilk was the star on the mound this time around, with Wilk tossing seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits. He also walked one and struck out three. Matt Hoffman and Brendan Wise each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to complete the game. The top of the order led the way on offense, with Andy Dirks going 3-for-5 with a solo home run, Scott Sizemore going 2-for-3 with two walks and scoring twice, Timo Perez belting a three run homer and driving in four total, and Ryan Strieby going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The SeaWolves kicked off a new series on Friday but lost in the opener despite a strong comeback effort, losing 8-6. Mark Sorensen got the start and took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) in 4 1/3 innings. He also walked four and struck out just one. Matt Little gave up just one run in 2 2/3 innings and Lester Oliveros tossed a shutout inning, but the damage had already been done. The 'Wolves mounted a strong comeback, posting four runs in the eighth and getting the tying runs into scoring position, but Brandon Douglas struck out to end the threat, and Erie went away meekly in the ninth. Bryan Holaday went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in a pair of runs. Ben Guez also went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI and Jamie Johnson drove in a pair of runs despite going 0-for-5.
The Flying Tigers used a four-run fifth inning to claim a lead that they'd never relinquish as they topped Clearwater 4-2. Jay Voss got the win, going five innings, allowing two runs and striking out three. Ryan Robowski and Jordan Pratt combined for three scoreless innings of relief, while Kenny Faulk tossed a perfect ninth with a pair of strikeouts to pick up his fifth save. Wade Gaynor drove in the game-winning runs with a two run, two out single in the fifth inning. Corey Jones led the inning off with a double and later scored on a Gustavo Nunez single.
The Whitecaps can't buy a win, especially against Lansing, as the 'Caps fell 12-6 to the Lugnuts. Brennan Smith got the start, giving up five runs but just one earned in four innings of work. Richard Zumaya took the loss, giving up four earned runs while recording just one out. Ramon Lebron gave up just one unearned run in 1 1/3 innings, while Bruce Rondon tossed a scoreless inning. James Robbins went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI total, while Rob Brantly also had two hits including a double, a run scored and two RBI. Luis Castillo also went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run.
