MiLB Recaps: Lefties Shine in Victories

Each morning, check in for the Minor League Recap Blog. Get all of the results from the games, the latest standings and the daily blog recapping the previous day's action. Featured performance: Andrew Oliver and Casey Crosby both turned in seven shutout innings that helped lead to wins.

April 30th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 4, Pawtucket 3
12-12, 3rd in West Division

The Mud Hens pulled to an even .500 on Saturday with a close 4-3 win over Pawtucket. The Mud Hens held a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, but Pawtucket scored three runs and had the go-ahead run on base, but Enrique Gonzalez came on and got a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat, and Pawtucket then went quietly in the ninth. Andrew Oliver earned the win for the game, tossing seven shutout innings for the Hens, allowing just three hits while striking out six. Robbie Weinhardt however allowed all three men he faced to reach base, with Matt Hoffman recording an out but allowing all of his inherited runs to score. It was Gonzalez who saved the game, striking out three in his 1 2/3 innings of work as he earned his second save. Scott Sizemore had yet another big game, going 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in a run. Argenis Diaz also had two hits and walked twice, while Cale Iorg added a hit, swiped a base and drove in a run, but did commit his ninth error of the year.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 5, Altoona 0
10-11, t-4th in Western Division

The SeaWolves picked up a 5-0 shutout victory behind an outstanding outing from left-hander Casey Crosby. Like Oliver, Crosby tossed seven shutout innings, scattering just three hits, walking two and striking out seven. Lester Oliveros and Chance Ruffin then eached pitched a perfect inning of relief to secure the win. The offense got a boost from Michael Bertram, who went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Bryan Holaday and Deik Scram also each chipped in with two hits and a walk apiece. Finally Ben Guez had a triple and drove in two runs for the 'Wolves.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Brevard County 6, Lakeland 1
11-12, 3rd in North Division

The Flying Tigers fell to Brevard County 6-1 on Saturday. Cole Nelson got the start and took the loss, giving up four runs on 11 hits in just 4 2/3 innings of work. He also walked two and struck out eight. Nate Newman then allowed two more runs in relief to complete the scoring for Brevard County. Meanwhile, the LFT offense went silent with runners in scoring position as they went just 1-for-12. Brent Wyatt scored Michael Rockett for the team's only run. Gustavo Nunez also had two hits including a triple and a stolen base.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Lansing 2, West Michigan 0
7-14, t-7th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps lost their 11th straight game on Saturday, as Lansing shut them out 2-0. Antonio Cruz was very good on the mound, giving up two runs on three hits in seven innings, but there was no run support to be found. Steve Crnkovich also tossed two scoreless innings of relief. The 'Caps managed six hits, including a double from Billy Nowlin, but went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and the lone hit came from James Robbins with Nowlin on second, who couldn't score from there.
