AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 4, Pawtucket 3
13-12, 3rd in West Division
It was another 4-3 win for the Mud Hens over Pawtucket on Sunday, this time behind a big four run fourth inning and a solid outing from Thad Weber. Weber went 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. All three runs allowed were via solo home runs. From there, Brendan Wise and Fu-Te Ni combined for two shutout innings, while Enrique Gonzalez pitched the ninth for his third save of the season. Andy Dirks and Scott Sizemore were the usual catalysts for the Mud Hens offense. Dirks went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while also walking twice, and Sizemore ripped a triple that plated two runs.
AA Erie Seawolves - Altoona 6, Erie 5
10-12, 5th in Western Division
After a strong showing on Saturday, the 'Wolves didn't get the same support on the mound, and this time around fell 6-5. With Erie clinging to a 5-4 lead in the eighth, Austin Wood walked the leadoff batter and then exited, handing the ball over to Chance Ruffin. After advancing the runner, Ruffin gave up a double to allow the tying run to score, and then an error on shortstop Audy Ciriaco allowed the go-ahead run to score. Ruffin took the blown save and the loss. L.J. Gagnier got the start, giving up three runs on six hits in three innings of work. Jared Gayhart then took over and allowed a run in his three innings. At the plate, Rawley Bishop and Shawn Roof each ripped a double and drove in two runs. Jamie Johnson also reached base four times, with two hits and two walks and scored once.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 14, Brevard County 5
12-12, 3rd in North Division
It was a fun win for the Flying Tigers on Sunday, as they topped Brevard County 14-5. Jared Wesson got the win, giving up three runs in seven innings of work. Michael Morrison then allowed a pair of runs in relief, while Jordan Pratt tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game. But the story lines were at the plate. Gustavo Nunez had another big game, going 2-for-6 with a home run and four RBI, while Tony Plagman also added a solo home run. Wade Gaynor also had a stellar performance, falling a home run shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple and three runs scored. Avisail Garcia also had four hits including a double, scored twice and drove in one. Finally, Eric Roof chipped in with two hits including a double, two runs and two RBI.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - Fort Wayne 13, West Michigan 7
7-15, 8th in Eastern division
West Michigan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the lead was short lived as by the time the fourth inning wrapped up, the Whitecaps were trailing by four runs and never got any closer. Josue Carreno took the loss, giving up six runs on five hits in three-plus innings of work. Clemente Mendoza came on in relief but didn't fare any better, giving up five more runs in three innings. Dan Gentzler wrapped up the game, giving up the final two runs in his two innings. Nick Castellanos finally had his first big game as a Whitecap, going 2-for-4 with a two run homer and three RBI total. Rob Brantly also ripped a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
