MiLB Recaps: Turner Earns First Double-A Win

May 9th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Lehigh Valley 1, Toledo 0
15-17, 3rd in West Division

Andrew Oliver turned in a very strong start for the Mud Hens, unfortunately, he got no run support as Toledo fell 1-0. Oliver took the loss as he gave up one run on nine hits over seven innings of work, walking three and striking out seven. Brendan Wise and Matt Hoffman kept the IronPigs off the board the rest of the game, however the offense couldn't make up the difference. The club managed just four hits, none for extra bases. Argenis Diaz did have two of those four singles.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 10, Akron 3
14-15, t-4th in Western Division

The SeaWolves pulled themselves out of the cellar on Monday with a 10-3 win over Akron. Jacob Turner finally picked up his first Double-A win, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one unearend run on five hits while walking three and striking out six. Ramon Garcia gave up two runs in the final 2 1/3 innings but the SeaWolves already had built up a comfortable lead at that point. Audy Ciriaco had a big game on offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs driven in while also scoring a pair. Bryan Holaday ripped a double and drove in a pair of runs, while Brandon Douglas had two hits, scored twice, and drove in one.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 5, Tampa 1
15-16, 3rd in North Division

The Flying Tigers picked up a 5-1 win over Tampa on Monday. Trevor Feeney got the start and picked up the win for Lakeland, giving up one run on four hits in seven innings of work. He also walked one and struck out four as he earned his third win of the season. Tyler Stohr and Kenny Faulk each tossed a scoreless inning of relief as well. Tony Plagman once again helped lead the charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and driving in a pair of runs. Corey Jones also added two doubles and scored once, while Daniel Fields had a double, scored a run and drove in one.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - West Michigan 5, Dayton 4
13-17, t-6th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps came back from an early 3-0 deficit to pull out a 5-4 win over Dayton. Brennan Smith got the start and took a no decision, giving up three runs on five hits in three innings before turning things over to the bullpen. Dan Gentzler would earn the win for tossing three shutout innings, while Ramon Lebron then allowed just one unearned run in two innings. Bruce Rondon then came on and struck out the side in the ninth to slam the door shut and lock up the one run victory. Nick Castellanos had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple and scoring twice. Luis Castillo also added two hits and an RBI, and Jeff Rowland ripped a triple and drove in a run.
