AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 4, Lehigh Valley 2
16-19, 3rd in West Division
The Mud hens picked up a 4-2 win over Lehigh Valley on Thursday. Charlie Furbush picked up the win, giving up two runs on four hits in seven innings of work. He also walked two and struck out six as he picked up his third win of the year. The Mud Hens were supposed to face off against Eddie Bonine, but he was ejected in the very first inning for arguing balls and strikes with the umpire. In relief for Toledo, Brendan Wise tossed a scoreless inning, and then Enrique Gonzalez pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. At the plate, Danny Worth went 3-for-4 with a run driven in, while Ben Guez added two hits including a double and scored twice. Will Rhymes also had three hits and scored a run.
AA Erie Seawolves - Altoona 7, Erie 2
15-17, 5th in Western Division
Erie fell to Altoona 7-2 in a rather odd game in which they managed just two runs on 15 hits, while yielding seven runs on only six hits, in part thanks to three SeaWolves' errors. L.J. Gagnier got the start and took the loss, allowing all seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Austin Wood and Ramon Garcia handled the remaining 2 1/3 innings, but the 'Wolves just couldn't bring any runs home, going 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Michael Bertram posted a 4-for-4 game with a solo home run, while Bryan Pounds also added a solo home run. Justin Henry also added four hits in the losing effort.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – St. Lucie 7, Lakeland 0
16-18, 4th in North Division
The Flying Tigers got shut out on Thursday 7-0 by St. Lucie. Jared Wesson got the start and took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. Zach Samuels tossed 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief, but Ryan Robowski then gave up a pair of runs in the final inning to close things out. Lakeland's offense meanwhile was quiet, managing just five singles and coming up 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - West Michigan 5, South Bend 3
15-19, t-6th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps picked up a 5-3 win over South Bend behind a strong start from Kevin Eichhorn. He picked up his second win of the season, giving up just two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings of work. He also walked one and struck out two. Nate Newman earned his first hold by giving up an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief, and Bruce Rondon recorded the final four outs including two strikeouts to pick up his fourth save. The 'Caps got most of their production from the bottom of the order, with Jeff Rowland going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Steven Moya also added a double, scored a run and drove in two.
