AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 2, Charlotte 1
21-22, 3rd in West Division
The Mud Hens got a much needed win on Friday behind a strong outing from Adam Wilk. Wilk picked up the win, giving up a run in 7 2/3 innings of work. He also walked two and struck out four. Brendan Wise retired the final batter in the eighth, and Enrique Gonzalez pitched the ninth for his sixth save, though he made it interesting by allowing a pair of hits, including a double that resulted in a play at the plate, with Scott Thorman hitting Danny Worth, who relayed to Omir Santos at the plate for the second out of the inning. Gonzalez then struck out the final batter to secure the win. The offense scattered eight hits, with Ryan Strieby belting a solo home run.
AA Erie Seawolves - Bowie 6, Erie 2
17-21, 6th in Western Division
The SeaWolves dropped their game with Bowie on Friday evening, falling 6-2. Luke Putkonen got the start and took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) in five innings of work. Cory Hamilton and Rob Waite combined to toss three shutout innings, but the offense couldn't mount a comeback. Bryan Pounds had two hits and drove in a run, while Jamie Johnson added two hits and scored once.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 4, Jupiter 1
21-21, 4th in North Division
The Flying Tigers topped Jupiter on Friday 4-1. Jay Voss turned in a very strong start, giving up a run on four hits in seven innings of work with no walks and seven strikeouts. Tyler Stohr then pitched a perfect eighth and Kenny Faulk a perfect ninth to wrap the game up. Corey Jones drove in a pair of runs for the club, while Brent Wyatt added a triple and drove in a run. Wade Gaynor also had a double and scored twice.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - Fort Wayne 8, West Michigan 1
16-23, 8th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps dropped their series opener with Fort Wayne on Friday, falling 8-1. Kevin Eichhorn took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) in 6 2/3 innings of work, with no walks and five strikeouts. Nate Newman was victimized for the rest of the damage, giving up three runs while recording only two outs. James Robbins supplied the only run of the game, a solo home run in the fifth inning.
R VSL Tigers - Reds 6, Tigers 3
0-3, 6th in VSL
The VSL Tigers are still searching for their first win of the season, after falling on Friday to the VSL Reds 6-3. Angel Nesbitt got the start and took a no decision, allowing a run in four innings with three strikeouts. Cruz Cedeno took the loss for allowing three runs in three innings of work. Jesus Alvarado and Harold Castro each drove in a run for the club, while Jesus Ustariz managed three hits and scored once.
