AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Gwinnett 4, Toledo 3 (14)
27-36, 4th in West Division
The Mud Hens fell to Gwinnett yet again on Friday, as the Braves completed a four game sweep of the Hens. The Hens certainly battled though, as they game lasted 14 innings before Toledo finally fell 4-3. Duane Below got the start and was excellent, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits in eight innings of work. Lester Oliveros, Brendan Wise and Matt Hoffman then combined for five shutout innings of relief before the ball was handed to Jose Ortega, who gave up the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the 14th. Magglio Ordonez had a big game as his rehab stint winds down, belting a two run homer and walking twice for the club. Omir Santos also chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
AA Erie Seawolves - New Britain 4, Erie 3
28-31, 5th in Western Division
Though it didn't take extra innings, Erie also fell 4-3 on Friday night, losing to New Britain. Brooks Brown got his first decision of the season, taking the loss as he allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings of work. Luis Marte and Austin Wood didn't allow a run over the final 4 1/3 innings but the early hole was too much. Audy Ciriaco had three hits including a double, scored a run and drove in another for the team. John Murrian also added a triple and an RBI.
A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 12, Daytona 1
33-28, t-3rd in North Division
Trevor Feeney turned in an outing that didn't require much run support, but he got plenty as Lakeland cruised to a 12-1 victory. Feeney got the start and the win, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits while walking one and striking out four. The lone run came in the ninth off Victor Larez, in relief. Eight of the nine members of the lineup had at least one RBI, and eight of the nine also had at least one hit. Avisail Garcia went 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and also driving in two. William Bergolla also added three hits including a double and drove in two. Gustavo Nunez and Brent Wyatt also combined for six hits, four runs and two RBI from the top two slots in the order.
A West Michigan Whitecaps - West Michigan 5, Burlington 4
28-33, 6th in Eastern division
The Whitecaps continued their winning streak on Friday night with a 5-4 win over Burlington. Josue Carreno got the start and the win, allowing three runs in seven innings of work. Antonio Cruz allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings of relief before Bruce Rondon came on and got the final out to record his tenth save. Nick Castellanos was responsible for most of the run production, belting a three run homer. James Robbins also added two hits and an RBI.
R DSL Tigers - Tigers 6, Cubs 2
2-5, 4th in DSL SPM Division
The DSL Tigers picked up their second win of the young season over the DSL Cubs2 squad, winning 6-2. Yoel Espinal got the start and a no decision, tossing four shutout innings. Pedro Aybar got the win in relief while being the only pitcher for the Tigers to allow any runs, giving up two (one earned) in 1 2/3 innings. Samuel Crafort had a monster game at the plate, falling a double short of the cycle and also scoring twice and adding two RBI. Alwin Delgado also had three hits, and Raynolds Guzman had a hit, a walk, scored a run, and drove in another.
R VSL Tigers - Mariners 11, Tigers 2
6-13, 6th in VSL
The VSL Tigers fell to the VSL Mariners 11-2 on Friday. Angel Nesbitt got the start and took the loss, giving up eight runs in just 2 2/3 innings of work. Jose and Luis Rodriguez had strong relief outings as neither allowed a run over 3 1/3 innings, but the game was well out of reach already. Jhosua Montero had two hits and an RBI for the club, while Orvin Tovar added a hit and an RBI.
