MiLB Recaps: 'Caps Extend Win Streak to 8

June 11th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Rochester 11, Toledo 5
27-37, 4th in West Division

The Mud Hens dropped their series opener with Rochester at Fifth Third Field, losing 11-5. Thad Weber got the start and got hit hard, giving up nine runs on 11 hits in three innings of work. Fu-Te Ni did toss three scoreless innings of relief, while Robbie Weinhardt allowed the final two runs in his three innings. Magglio Ordonez had yet another good game at the plate as his rehab appearance winds down; he went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Ryan Strieby also added a solo home run, and Will Rhymes added three singles.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 8, New Britain 2
29-31, 5th in Western Division

The SeaWolves got a strong start from Jay Voss and cruised to an 8-2 victory over New Britain on Saturday. Voss went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits with a pair of walks and eight strikeouts as he picked up his second win in the Eastern League. Zach Samuels and Chance Ruffin each tossed a scoreless inning to wrap things up. Francisco Martinez was the big run producer, with two hits good for three runs driven in, scoring one himself. Brandon Douglas also added three hits including a double and scored twice, while Audy Ciriaco also added a double and scored a run. John Murrian also went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Brevard County 7, Lakeland 4
33-29, t-3rd in North Division

The Flying Tigers dropped their game to Brevard County on Saturday, 7-4. Cole Nelson got roughed up as the starter and took the loss, giving up all seven runs (six earned) in 3 2/3 innings of work. He also walked three and struck out six as he fell to 3-8 for the year. Shawn Teufel and Dan Gentzler combined to not allow another run over the final 5 1/3 innings, but the Lakeland offense could only manage four runs for the game. Tony Plagman had a big game though at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run. Wade Gaynor added two hits including a double and drove in two runs.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - West Michigan 9, Burlington 2
29-33, 6th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps extended their winning streak to eight with a 9-2 win over Burlington on Saturday. Kevin Eichhorn got the start and picked up the win, giving up a pair of runs in five innings of work. Patrick Cooper and Ramon Lebron took it from there, not allowing a run over the final four innings. Hernan Perez belted a three run homer for the club, while Nick Castellanos added two hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Javier Azcona added a double and two RBI.

R DSL Tigers - GM1: Tigers 9, Blue Jays 4
GM2: Tigers 4, Blue Jays 2

4-5, 3rd in DSL SPM Division

The DSL Tigers picked up two wins on Saturday over the DSL Blue Jays, winning the first game 9-4 and the second 4-2. Gregorio Solano got the start and the win in the first game, giving up three runs in five innings of work. Samuel Crafort belted a two run home run, while Francisco Contreras added a double and two RBI. In the second game, Gregory Morillo got the start but didn't record an out, as he walked three and three two wild pitches before exiting. Luis Hidalgo came in though and was outstanding, giving up just one run in five innings with nine strikeouts. Four other relievers aided in closing the game out, with Samuel Ortiz recording the final out to get the save. Omar Oses had a double, scored once and drove in two runs, while Confesor Lara added a triple and scored a run.

R VSL Tigers - Tigers 3, Phillies 1
7-13, 6th in VSL

The VSL Tigers earned a 3-1 win over the VSL Phillies on Saturday. Daniel Hernandez got the start and the win, giving up a run on four hits in five innings. Three other relievers bridged the gap to Jose Tablante, who pitched the ninth to earn his first save. Jesus Ustariz had a huge game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in two. Jhosua Montero also added two hits and scored a run, and Jose Ovalles added a double and scored.
