MiLB Recaps: Sorensen Leads Shutout for Erie

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 6, Rochester 3
28-37, 4th in West Division

Toledo snapped their losing skid on Sunday with a 6-3 win over Rochester. L.J. Gagnier got the start and picked up the win, giving up three runs in five innings of work. He walked four and struck out two as he picked up his first win as Mud Hen this season. Matt Hoffman and Ryan Perry took it from there, each tossing two shutout innings, with Perry allowing no hits as he earned his third save. At the plate, Will Rhymes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored and two more driven in. Bryan Pounds also added two hits and two RBI.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 2, New Britain 0
30-31, 5th in Western Division

Behind seven shutout innings from Mark Sorensen, the SeaWolves picked up a 2-0 shutout win over New Britain. Sorensen got the start and the win as he improved to 6-3 for the year, giving up just three hits and walking three while striking out four. Austin Wood pitched a scoreless eighth, and Chance Ruffin pitched the ninth for his seventh save to complete the shutout. The 'Wolves didn't have much going on offense, managing just five hits, but Jamie Johnson drove in Bryan Holaday on an RBI double in the sixth and the club added an insurance run in the ninth when Franciso Martinez scored from first on a long single from Rawley Bishop.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Brevard County 6, Lakeland 4
33-30, 4th in North Division

Lakeland fell again to Brevard County on Sunday, losing 6-4, despite jumping out to an early 3-1 lead. Jared Wesson got the start and took a no decision, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings but walking six batters as he battled his control. Ryan Robowski and Tyler Stohr combined for three innings of shutout relief, getting the game to the ninth holding a 4-3 lead. But the normally reliable Kenny Faulk couldn't get the job done this time, giving up three runs in the ninth, including the go-ahead runs on a two run homer. In the bottom half of the inning, Lakeland got the tying run on base, but a double play killed the threat and ended the game. At the plate, Jordan Lennerton belted a two run homer, while Tony Plagman added a triple and drove in two runs as well. Gustavo Nunez had two hits and scored twice.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - West Michigan 14, Burlington 5
30-33, 6th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps win streak continues as they beat up on Burlington on Sunday, cruising to a 14-5 win. Kyle Ryan got the start and earned the win, giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings of work. Michael Torrealba then pitched the final three innings, giving up just one run to earn his third save for pitching the final three innings. At the plate, James Robbins and Hernan Perez each belted home runs (Robbins a two run shot, Perez's a three). Robbins was 4-for-6 for the game, scoring three times. Dixon Machado had three hits and drove in two runs, while Nick Castellanos also added a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. Ryan Hamme chipped in with three hits and scored once, and Jeff Rowland reached base four times on two hits and two walks, scoring once and driving in one.
