MiLB Recaps: Turner Pitches 'Wolves to Win

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Columbus 6, Toledo 3
32-50, 4th in West Division

The Mud Hens fell to Columbus on Thursday night, 6-2. L.J. Gagnier got the start and took the loss but pitched well, giving up two runs in six innings of work with seven strikeouts. Matt Hoffman had a rough outing, yielding four runs in his one inning. Brendan Wise and Enrique Gonzalez each tossed a scoreless inning to wrap up the pitching. Clete Thomas ripped a double and drove in two runs for the club, as the team only managed three hits for the whole game. Jeff Salazar also added a double and scored a run.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 7, Akron 3
40-39, 3rd in Western Division

The SeaWolves moved a game above .500 as Jacob Turner led the 'Wolves to a 7-3 victory. Turner gave up three runs on nine hits in seven innings of work with two walks and five strikeouts. Luis Marte then pitched the final two innings, not allowing a run or a hit. At the plate, Bryan Pounds ripped a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Bryan Holaday also ripped a three run homer, while Brandon Douglas went 3-for-4 and belted a solo shot along with a double and scored twice.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 5, Dunedin 1
3-3, 4th in North Division

Lakeland picked up a 5-1 win over Dunedin on Thursday behind Trevor Feeney. Feeney went seven innings, allowing five hits and one run with a walk and four strikeouts. Zach Samuels pitched the eighth inning to earn a hold, while Kenny Faulk pitched the ninth to close things out. At the plate, Carlos Guillen ripped a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. Daniel Fields also added a solo home run, and Julio Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Suspended: Rain
3-3, t-4th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps game with Fort Wayne was suspended due to rain in the ninth inning on Thursday with the score tied at three. The 'Caps will have a chance to win it with one out and runners at the corners when play resumes on Friday evening.

SS-A Connecticut Tigers - Vermont 6, Connecticut 4
5-7, 4th in Stedler Division

The CT-Tigers dropped another game to Vermont, losing 6-3. Brennan Smith got the start and took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) in 5 1/3 innings of work. A trio of relievers combined to allow just two hits over the final 3 1/3 innings, but the offense couldn't get the club back in the game. P.J. Polk ripped a home run and drove in two runs total for the club, while Dean Green added a pair of doubles. Javier Azcona also added a triple and drove in a run.

R GCL Tigers - Braves 9, Tigers 5
4-6, t-4th in North Division

The GCL Tigers fell to the GCL Braves on Thursday, 9-5. Brian Stroud got the start and took the loss, giving up seven runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings of work. He also walked one and struck out four. Bill Castillo allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings, while Emmanuel Del Orbe also allowed a run in two innings to complete the runs allowed from the club. At the plate, Edgar Corcino ripped a solo home run as part of a 2-for-4 day, while Carlos De Los Santos went 2-for-3 with a double an driving in two runs. Eugenio Suarez also added two hits and an RBI.

R DSL Tigers - Angels 8, Tigers 7
9-18, 3rd in DSL SPM Division

The DSL Tigers fell in a close one 8-7 to the DSL Angels, allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the loss. Adrian Paniagua got the start, giving up three runs (one earned) in three innings of work. Three relievers combined to allow just two runs over the next four innings as the DSL Tigers claimed the lead, but Ricardo Ciriaco couldn't keep the Angels down in the ninth, allowing three runs to take the blown save and the loss. Eurys Felipe had a double and drove in two runs for the team, while Lenny Pena added two hits, a run and an RBI.

R VSL Tigers - Phillies 8, Tigers 2
13-25, 6th in VSL

The VSL Tigers fell to the VSL Phillies 8-2 on Thursday. Yorfrank Lopez got the start and took the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) in four innings of work as he fell to 0-4 on the season. Jose Rodriguez came on in relief and allowed just one run in three innings, with Junior Camaripano tossing a shutout inning as well, but the damage had already been done. Anderson Yance had a hit and a walk and scored twice for the team, while Jesus Alvarado added three hits.
