MiLB Recaps: Fu-Te Ni K's 9 in Hens Win

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 4, Columbus 1
39-53, 4th in West Division

Toledo heads into the All-Star break riding a short win streak, as they beat Columbus 4-1 on Sunday. Fu-Te Ni got the start and the win with an excellent outing, giving up one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings with a walk and nine strikeouts. Jose Ortega and Brad Thomas each picked up a hold while not allowing a run or a hit, and Chance Ruffin earned his fourth save for tossing a scoreless ninth with a strikeout. At the plate, Will Rhymes went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run, while Jeff Salazar added a double, a run and an RBI. Ryan Strieby also added a double and scored a run, while Ben Guez walked twice and had an RBI.

AA Erie Seawolves - Erie 10, Akron 4
43-46, 5th in Western Division

The SeaWolves closed out their first half with a strong 10-4 win over Akron on Sunday. Ramon Garcia got the start and the win, giving up two runs in six innings of work. He also walked one and struck out five. Robbie Weinhardt allowed a pair of runs in his two innings of relief, with Rob Waite getting the final three outs to seal the win. At the plate, Bryan Pounds belted a three run homer, while Audy Ciriaco and Justin Henry combined to drive in five runs. Henry had three hits and drove in three, while Ciriaco added two hits including a triple, scored twice, and drove in two. John Murrian also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Michael Bertram added two hits including a double and scored three runs.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 6, Bradenton 5
7-8, 4th in North Division

Lakeland held off a late push by Bradenton and picked up a 6-5 win on Sunday. Shawn Teufel got the start and a no decision, giving up two runs (one earned) in four innings of work. Michael Morrison would get the win, tossing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Zach Samuels then went 2 1/3 innings, not allowing a run while striking out four before handing the ball to Kenny Faulk, which is where things got interesting. Faulk allowed three baserunners and after getting the second out of the inning was lifted for Matt Little. Faulk had already allowed one run, and Little yielded a double that allowed two more runs to score and put the tying run in scoring position. But he struck out the next batter to record the save and preserve the win. On offense, Corey Jones went 2-for-4 with a two run homer, while Jordan Lennerton added a double and two RBI. Avisail Garcia also went 3-for-5 with a double and scored once.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Bowling Green 11, West Michigan 7
9-8, t-4th in Eastern division

West Michigan fell to Bowling Green in a high scoring affair on Sunday, 11-7. Josue Carreno got roughed up as the starter, giving up nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Jade Todd allowed a run in his 3 1/3 innings, while Bruce Rondon also gave up a run in his inning of work to complete runs allowed. At the plate, Rob Brantly and Luis Sanz each had two hits including a double and drove in two runs, Brantly also scored twice. Nick Castellanos and Clay Jones each added two hits including a double with one RBI, with Jones also scoring twice.

SS-A Connecticut Tigers - Connecticut 2, Brooklyn 1
9-12, 3rd in Stedler Division

Connecticut put up a pair of runs early and then held on for a 2-1 win over Brooklyn. Luis Angel Sanz got the win as the starter, giving up just two hits and no runs in five innings of work. He also walked four and struck out four. Melvin Mercedes allowed a run in his two relief innings, while Jeff Barfield tossed a scoreless eighth for a hold and Daniel Bennett pitched a shutout ninth inning for his fourth save. Jason King led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 and belting a solo home run. Chad Wright also added a hit and an RBI.
