MiLB Recaps: Four Clubs Reach Double Figures

Each morning, check in for the Minor League Recap Blog. Get all of the results from the games, the latest standings and the daily blog recapping the previous day's action. Featured performance: Erie, Lakeland, Connecticut and the GCL all reached double digits in runs on a big day for offense.

July 20th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 4, Norfolk 3
45-54, 4th in West Division

Toledo rode a four run first inning to a 4-3 win. Adam Wilk got the start but made it only 4 1/3 innings, giving up three runs (one earned) with four strikeouts. Ryan Perry earned the win in relief for tossing two shutout innings with two strikeouts. Chance Ruffin also earned his seventh save. Clete Thomas, Jeff Salazar and Danny Worth each had an RBI.

AA Erie Seawolves - Trenton 13, Erie 12
46-51, 5th in Western Division

Ramon Garcia got the start for the 'Wolves, allowing six runs in five innings of work. Rob Waite gave up four runs in two innings, while Austin Wood took the loss for allowing three runs without recording an out. John Murrian went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI, while Deik Scram added two hits and three runs driven in. Audy Ciriaco also went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, and Jamie Johnson and Francisco Martinez each had two hits including a double and scored twice.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Lakeland 11, Charlotte 0
12-12, 2nd in North Division

Drew Smyly tossed six shutout innings and got six strikeouts in Lakeland's easy victory. Tony Plagman and Eric Roof each belted two run homers, while Wade Gaynor added two hits and three RBI. Jordan Lennerton also added a double, two RBI and scored twice.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Kane County 7, West Michigan 6 (15)
13-12, t-4th in Eastern division

Kevin Eichhorn started for the 'Caps and gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Bruce Rondon and Clemente Mendoza combined to toss 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the extra frames, but Jade Todd gave up the winning run to take the loss in his 1 2/3 innings. Rob Brantly went 4-for-8 with a run scored, while Hernan Perez and Nick Castellanos each had two hits, a run and an RBI. Steven Moya and Jason Krizan each added three hits and an RBI as well.

SS-A Connecticut Tigers - Connecticut 15, Tri-City 9 (13)
14-16, 3rd in Stedler Division

Connecticut went through a half dozen pitchers in the 13-inning game, with only two (Rayni Guichardo and Daniel Bennett, each of whom went two innings) not allowing a run. Tyler Barrett got the start and gave up four runs in two innings. Nick Avila got the win thanks to the CT-Tigers six run 13th inning. Jason King led the way in that inning with a grand slam as part of a five RBI day. Dean Green and Jeff Holm also added home runs, with Holm's a two run shot. Zack Maggard also had a big game, going 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles and three RBI, plus two runs.

R GCL Tigers - Tigers 12, Yankees 3
10-17, 5th in North Division

Jack Duffey got the start and the win for the GCL Tigers, giving up two runs in six innings of work. Juaner Aguasvivas had a three run homer and drove in four runs total for the club in his 4-for-5 day. Brandon Eckerle added two runs scored and two RBI, and Adolfo Reina also belted a solo shot.

R DSL Tigers - Angels 8, Tigers 1
16-27, 3rd in DSL SPM Division

Adrian Paniagua took the loss for the club, giving up four runs in just 1 2/3 innings. Rafael Manzanillo did toss four innings of shutout relief, but then Walter Lachapel gave up four runs (just one earned) at the end. Felix Santana belted a solo home run for the club's only run.

R VSL Tigers - Tigers 5, Reds 4
20-34, 6th in VSL

Yorfrank Lopez got his first win of the year, allowing four runs in six innings with five strikeouts. Junior Camaripano got the save for not allowing a run over the final three innings. Jose Ovalles and Jose Cortes passed the club as each ripped a two run home run. David Gonzalez also reached base three times for the team.
