Tigers Call Up Jacob Turner, Starts Saturday

On Saturday morning, the Tigers announced they were calling up 20-year old right-hander Jacob Turner, who will start Saturday afternoon's game against the Angels.

Just weeks ago, Tigers' general manager Dave Dombrowski stated it would be "unlikely" that the team would call up star prospect Jacob Turner.

On Saturday morning, that tune changed as the Tigers promoted Jacob Turner from Double-A Erie. Turner will get the start against the Angels on Saturday evening at 7:05pm.

Turner is one of the top prospects in all of baseball. TigsTown ranks him the #1 prospect in the system, while scout.com ranks Turner the number 12 prospect in all of baseball.

Turner, who turned just 20 years old earlier this season, is 3-5 with a 3.48 ERA for Erie so far this year. He's also struck out 90 and walked 32 in 113 1/3 innings.

The move has not been officially announced yet, so there is yet to be a corresponding move. This is leading to speculation that the Tigers could be closing in on a deal, potentially for Seattle Mariners right-hander Doug Fister.
