MiLB Recaps: Bullpens Struggle in Losses

Each morning, check in for the Minor League Recap Blog. Get all of the results from the games, the latest standings and the daily blog recapping the previous day's action. Featured performance: Three bullpens took losses on Sunday as they couldn't hold a lead or keep a game tied.

August 28th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Indianapolis 8, Toledo 3 (10)
65-72, 4th in West Division

Toledo forced extra innings but fell hard in the tenth inning as they gave up five runs to fall 8-3. Thad Weber got the start and turned in a quality start, giving up three runs in six innings. Three relievers then combined for three scoreless innings, but Robbie Weinhardt got roughed up in the tenth, giving up all five runs to take the loss. Jeff Salazar went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Timo Perez ripped a double and scored a run for the club.

AA Erie Seawolves - Bowie 4, Erie 1
65-69, 5th in Western Division

An outstanding start went for naught as Erie fell to Bowie 4-1. Brooks Brown started and tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts. However, Rob Waite allowed four runs in his two innings of relief to take the blown save and the loss. Brandon Douglas had a hit and drove in Jamie Johnson for the club's only run.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – Clearwater 4, Lakeland 3 (10)
24-35, 6th in North Division

It was another extra inning loss on Sunday, as Lakeland also fell in ten innings, 4-3. Shawn Teufel started and pitched well, giving up three runs on just four hits in seven innings of work. Michael Morrison also tossed two scoreless innings of relief. But Matt Little gave up the game winning run in the bottom of the tenth, unearned. Eric Roof had three hits including a double and an RBI, while Brandon Loy went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Daniel Fields also had a double and scored twice.

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Dayton 6, West Michigan 0
33-29, t-4th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps were shut out by Dayton on Sunday, falling 6-0. Brian Stroud struggled and took the loss, giving up six runs in three innings of work. Three relievers combined to keep Dayton off the scoreboard the rest of the game, but the Whitecaps offense was too quiet and didn't mount a comeback. Nick Castellanos had one of the club's six hits, a double for the team's only extra base hit of the day.

SS-A Connecticut Tigers - Cancelled: Rain
33-32, 2nd in Stedler Division

Sunday's game with Vermont was cancelled as a result of the rain along the eastern coast.
