MiLB Recaps: Season Ends on Down Note

September 5th Games

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - Toledo 3, Columbus 1
67-77, 4th in West Division

Toledo wrapped up the season on a high note on Monday, beating Columbus 3-1. Adam Wilk got the start and tossed 3 1/3 innings of shutout baseball, striking out six. Jose Ortega got the win in relief, allowing one unearned in three innings. Matt Hoffman earned a hold, and Enrique Gonzalez got his 13th save for tossing a scoreless ninth. Ryan Strieby led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and driving in all three runs for the team. Justin Henry also added a double, a walk and a run scored.

AA Erie Seawolves - Bowie 3, Erie 2
67-75, 5th in Western Division

Erie came up just short on Monday in their season finale, falling to Bowie 3-2. Jay Voss got the start and took the loss, allowing two runs in five innings of work. He also walked two and struck out five. Drew Smyly and Tyler Stohr each tossed a scoreless inning of relief though. Rawley Bishop went 2-for-4 with a double and Michael Rockett drove in a run.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – End of Season
28-40, 6th in North Division

A West Michigan Whitecaps - Fort Wayne 7, West Michigan 2
38-32, 4th in Eastern division

The Whitecaps season came to a disappointing end on Monday, as they fell to Fort Wayne 7-2 and lost the opportunity to grab the last Midwest League playoff spot. The Whitecaps trailed 3-2 heading into the ninth inning, but a four-run inning by the TinCaps pushed Fort Wayne ahead by five runs and basically put the game out of reach. Alex Burgos took the loss, giving up three runs in seven innings. Michael Torrealba and Patrick Cooper each allowed two runs in the four run ninth though. Hernan Perez had a double and an RBI while James Robbins also drove in a run.
