Tigers Shaking Up Development Staff

With the end of the season sometimes come changes, and this year it appears the Tigers are intent on making some changes among their minor league coaching staffs. On Tuesday, Whitecaps manager Ernie Young announced he will not return to the organization, which comes on the heels of the Tigers relieving pitching coordinator Greg Sabat of his duties last week.

Over the weekend, TigsTown learned that long time pitching coordinator Greg Sabat had been let go by the organization. Sabat worked with pitchers year round in Lakeland, including helping supervise those players that were rehabbing their way back from injury.

Following the conclusion of the Connecticut season, the CT-Tigers pitching coach, Jorge Cordova, will step into that role.

On Tuesday, MLive.com's Peter Wallner reported that Ernie Young had been informed by the organization that his contract would not be renewed by the organization. Young was quoted as saying, "There are going to be some changes, but that's the only one that I can tell you about. I can't speak to or for anyone else."

At this point in time, it's unclear how deep and extensive the changes in the organization will be, and some turnover from year to year is typical. However, the moves and announcements at this time likely indicate a larger shift in staffing by the organization.
