The Saguaros could not hold an early 4-0 lead as they were pounded by the Solar Sox 12-6 on the road. Surprise falls to 1-3 with the loss.
The contest began with three consecutive singles that loaded the bases, one of which was by Kolten Wong who batted second. Wong advanced to third on a run-scoring double-play ball and raced home on a subsequent throwing error by Mesa's shortstop. The second baseman's tally was the second of four that Surprise would notch in that frame.
Mesa fought back with five in the third off two of the Saguaros' six hurlers to appear in the game. None of the six were from St. Louis' organization. The Mets' Darrell Ceciliani tied the game with a solo shot to lead off the fourth but The Solar Sox tallied in the fifth through eighth innings to bury their visitors.
Wong was the only Cardinal to play. After grounding out to first in the second, he tattooed a one-out single to right in the fifth. However, the 22-year-old was picked off by Dodgers pitcher Chris Reed and caught in a run down. Wong struck out looking in his final at bat in the eighth just before Red Sox Bryce Brentz smashed a solo bomb for Surprise's final run.
