Rangers Winterball Roundup – 10/27

Through seven winterball games, Gigantes del Cibao infielder Leury Garcia is batting .438 with six extra-base hits, including a triple and a home run on Saturday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Arizona Fall League: Surprise 4 – Peoria 1
9-7-1, 1.5 GB

The Saguaros picked up a victory over the first-place Javelinas on Saturday afternoon. First baseman Chris McGuiness (.292/.404/.542) produced with two singles in four at-bats. He also had an RBI.

Leadoff hitter Luis Sardinas, playing at second base, went 0-for-4. He grounded out, reached on a fielding error, lined into a double play, and grounded into a double play. Through six AFL contests, the 19-year-old prospect is 8-for-26 (.308) with a double and a home run. He's drawn one walk, fanned five times, and stolen a base.

Dominican Winter League

Four Rangers prospects appeared in Saturday's Gigantes del Cibao/Tigres del Licey game.

For Cibao, leadoff man and second baseman Leury Garcia had yet another big performance with the bat. The switch-hitting speedster went 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run, and two RBI.

Listed at 5-foot-7, 153 pounds, Garcia is much more known for his flashy speed and defensive tools than his power. But through seven winterball games, he's 14-for-32 (.438) with three doubles, a triple, and two home runs.

Garcia helped carry his Cibao club to a 6-1 win over Licey.

Licey centerfielder Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 with a double of his own. The Cuban prospect had an RBI, laid down a sacrifice bunt, struck out twice, and stole his third base. He further filled up the box score by committing a fielding error.

Mike Olt, making his second start in right field, walked once in five hitless plate appearances.

Licey left-hander Chad Bell worked two scoreless frames out of the bullpen. He allowed a single, struck out one, and induced five groundouts. Bell was making his first appearance in 10 days, when he started and failed to get out of the first inning, giving up four runs.

Venezuelan Winter League

La Guaira reliever Joe Ortiz (4.05 ERA/.222 BAA) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings, working around a single and striking out one. After scuffling to begin his winterball campaign, the 5-foot-7 lefty has turned in four consecutive scoreless appearances.

Liga Paralela (Venezuela Minor League)

There were no games in Liga Paralela on Saturday.

Mexican Pacific League

In his four plate appearances on Saturday, Mazatlan DH Joey Butler doubled once and struck out three times.

Guasave catcher Jose Felix saw action as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning. He grounded out in his only at-bat.

Puerto Rican Winter League
