Danry Vasquez Leads WM to Win (4/14 Recaps)

West Michigan found itself in the middle of an offensive shootout on Sunday and with the help of Danry Vasquez and the use of Austin Schotts as a pinch hitter the Whitecaps were able to top Bowling Green. Lakeland had similar fortune in a pitcher's duel as Kevin Eichhorn was dominant in his start against Dunedin. Toledo and Erie failed to earn wins on Sunday.

Toledo found itself locked in a pitching duel as runs came at a premium on Sunday but the Mud Hens were unable Louisville, falling in a 2-1 final. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill had a strong outing on the mound despite earned his first loss of the season, going seven innings while giving up two earned runs on five hits. Jordan Lennerton was the lone Toledo hitter to drive in a run, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Lennerton has driven in at least one run in six of his last 10 starts.

After climbing back to the .500 mark on Saturday Erie fell below the threshold on Sunday, falling to Reading 8-5. Starting pitcher Matt Crouse saw his record fall to 1-1 with the loss, giving up three earned runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. Reliever David Kopp also surrendered four runs, three of which were earned. Luis Castillo had a solid night offensively, going 1-for-4 while driving in two runs in the loss. Wade Gaynor also drove in a run on a 1-for-3 night.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
3-7, 6th in North Division

Excellent pitching was on display for Lakeland on Sunday as starter Kevin Eichhorn spun a gem for the Flying Tigers, leading Lakeland to a 2-0 win over Dunedin. In seven innings of work, Eichhorn surrendered two hits and shut out the Blue Jays to improve his record to 1-1. John Murrian had a solid night offensively for the Flying Tigers, going 2-for-3 while driving in a run and drawing a walk in the win. Chad Wright drove in the team's other run in the game.

Austin Schotts didn't start in Sunday's game but he was integral as he drove in two runs as a pinch hitter to help lead West Michigan to a 10-7 over Bowling Green in an offensive slugfest. Six of West Michigan's starters had at least one RBI in the win. Starting pitcher Yorfrank Lopez struggled in his start, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings pitched on his way to a no decision. Reliever Edgar De La Rosa earned his first win of the season, giving up three earned runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched. Danry Vasquez continued to be one of the team's offensive leaders, going 1-for-4 while driving in two runs and drawing a walk. Vasquez also crossed the plate twice in the win.
