Castellanos Solid in Toledo Win (4/19 Recaps)

Nick Castellanos helped Toledo get a big boost in the win column on Friday as his performance in the first game of a double header helped the Mud Hens top Columbus. John Lindsey's hot bat in the second game led Toledo to another win. Erie topped Trenton to move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Division, while Lakeland suffered another loss. West Michigan's game was postponed due to rain.

Toledo had a double header on its plate on Friday against Columbus due to rain on Thursday and were on the winning end of both, topping the Clippers 3-1 in the first game and 4-3 in the second game. Jose Alvarez earned a no decision in his game one start, going four innings no runs on three hits and striking out five. Reliever Luke Putkonen earned his first of the season, giving up one earned run on four hits in three innings of work. Bruce Rondon tallied his second save of the year in the win. Nick Castellanos had a big game from the plate offensively in the first game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI while drawing in three walks in the win. Shawn Hill had a solid start in game two despite earning the no decision, going seven innings and giving up two runs, though neither was earned. Jose Ortega earned his first win of the season in relief, giving up one run in two innings, though that run wasn't earned. John Lindsey had a big game offensively out of the designated hitter spot, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs driven in in the win.

A win against Trenton on Friday night would move Erie into a tie for first place in the Eastern Division, making the SeaWolves' 6-2 victory on Friday all the more meaningful early in the season. Victor Larez pushed his record to 2-0 in the win, giving up two earned runs on two hits in six innings of work. Will Startup earned his second save of the season in three innings on the mound. Daniel Fields had a big night offensively out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with a triple while driving in three runs and drawing a walk.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
4-11, 6th in North Division

Lakeland welcomed a familiar face from the Detroit Tigers on Friday but continued its struggles against Dunedin, falling in a 3-1 final. Kevin Eichhorn suffered his second loss of the season in the start, giving up two earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Jose Valverde made his first appearance with the Detroit Tigers' organization since last year's Major League Baseball playoffs, going one inning while striking out one and giving up a walk in relief. Dean Green had the best night for the Flying Tigers offensively, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in the loss.
