Travis Homers Twice in Caps Win (4/22 Recaps)

Devon Travis had what could arguably be the best game of any Tigers' prospect this season on Monday, notching two home runs and batting in five runs to lead West Michigan to a win over Lake County. Erie and Lakeland also came away with wins on Monday, while Toledo was the lone team to lose on the farm.

Toledo carried a 0-0 tie into the seventh inning but gave up three runs over the next two innings, falling to Columbus 3-0 on Monday. Duane Below had a solid start despite earning his second loss of the season, going 6 1/3 innings while giving up one earned run on six hits. Nick Castellanos had a good night for the Mud Hens offensively, going 1-for-3 with a double while drawing a walk in the loss.

9-8, 1st in Eastern Division

Erie needed a win over Bowie to pull into a first-place tie with the Baysox in the Eastern Division and that is exactly what the SeaWolves did, topping Bowie 6-4 on Monday. Warwick Saupold didn't have his best game of the season but it was enough to earn his first win of the year, giving up three earned runs on five hits in five innings on the mound. Will Startup earned his third save of the season in four innings of work. Corey Jones had a big game for the SeaWolves offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double while driving in two runs in the win.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
6-12, 6th in North Division

Starting pitcher Wilsen Palacios spun a gem on Monday on his way to earning his first win of the season, leading Lakeland to a 3-1 win over Clearwater. Palacios was solid, going six innings while giving up no earned runs on three hits and striking out five. Jose Valverde was impressive in relief, striking out the side in an inning of work while earning his first hold of the year. Slade Smith earned his first save of the season in the win. Despite scoring three runs the Flying Tigers only drove in one as Luis Sanz was the only Lakeland player to get an RBI in the win with the other runs coming in force outs.

7-8, 5th in Eastern Division

Devon Travis went into beast mode on Monday night for West Michigan, leading the ‘Caps to a 8-4 win over Lake County in the opening game of the series against the Captains. Travis had what was arguably the best game of his professional career so far, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and five runs driven in. Lance Durham drove in two runs in the win. Starting pitcher Yorfrank Lopez improved his record to 2-0 win the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
