Murrian Homer Leads LFT to Win (4/23 Recaps)

John Murrian did his part to help the Flying Tigers continue to move away from the bottom of the division on Tuesday as his four RBI night led Lakeland to a huge win over Clearwater. Erie was also victorious on Tuesday, helping the SeaWolves remain atop the division. Toledo and West Michigan both suffered losses on Tuesday.

Toledo found itself playing extra baseball on Tuesday night as Durham held a 3-3 tie with the Mud Hens after nine innings. An eleventh inning hit was the difference, as the Bulls topped Toledo 4-3. Starting pitcher Jose Alvarez took a no decision in the loss, giving up one earned run on three hits in six innings of work. Matt Hoffman took his first loss of the season in relief, giving up one earned run on two hits in 2/3 innings. Nick Castellanos notched a solo home run in the loss on a 1-for-5 night offensively.

Erie relied on a great starting pitching performance to maintain its lead in the Eastern Division, topping Bowie in a 4-1 final on Tuesday. Starter Derek Hankins pitched a gem, going eight innings while giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out six in his first win of the season. Justin Souza earned his third save of the year in the win. Hernan Perez had a great night offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in. Ramon Cabrera also drove in two runs out of the designated hitter spot.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
7-12, 6th in North Division

Lakeland put on an offensive clinic on Tuesday as the Flying Tigers continued to climb out of the cellar of the division, topping Clearwater 12-3. John Murrian drove in four runs on a 2-for-3 night that included a homerun and two walks. Kyle Ryan earned his second win of the season in his start, going six innings while giving up two earned runs on nine hits.

West Michigan let a late lead slip away in the final two innings of Tuesday's game against Lake County, falling to the Captains 8-5. Edrys Briceno took a no decision in the start, going five innings while giving up three earned runs on four hits. Reliever Angel Nesbitt earned his first loss of the season, giving up five earned runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings. Danry Vasquez had another good night for the ‘Caps offensively, going 2-for-4 while driving in two runs in the loss.
