Collins Stays Hot in Erie Win (5/2 Recaps)

Tyler Collins has been on a tear as of late and so have the SeaWolves as the outfielder drove in five runs on Thursday on the way to an Erie win. Toledo squeaked out a win over Charlotte, Danry Vasquez hit a walk off single to give West Michigan a win in extras and Lakeland fell to Daytona despite a strong performance by Jeff McVaney.

Toledo broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning against Charlotte, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Mud Hens went on to top the Knights 4-2. Casey Crosby earned a no decision in the start, giving up two earned runs on five hits in five innings of work. Despite only pitching ? innings of relief, Matt Hoffman earned his first win of the season. Bruce Rondon earned his fourth save of the season in his first outing since being sent from Detroit. Danny Dorn had a solid night offensively for Toledo, going 1-for-3 with a solo homerun in the win.

Tyler Collins was the story for Erie on Thursday as the outfielder had a big game offensively on the way to a 9-1 Erie win over Binghamton. Collins went 2-for-4 with two homeruns and five runs driven in in the win giving him four homeruns and 9 runs driven in in his last three games. Ramon Cabrera drove in two runs on a 1-for-3 night out of the designated hitter spot. Starter Kyle Lobstein was impressive in picking up his third win of the season, surrendering no earned runs on one hit in seven innings of work.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
11-15, 5th in North Division

After scoring two runs in the first inning Lakeland gave up six unanswered runs, falling to Daytona in a 6-2 final on Thursday. Starter Drew VerHagen saw his record fall to 0-3 in the loss, giving up five earned runs on eight hits in five innings on the mound. Jeff McVaney continues to be one of the strongest offensive presences for Lakeland, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs driven in on Thursday.

West Michigan needed extra innings against Cedar Rapids on Thursday but a walk off single in the bottom of the tenth by Danry Vasquez sealed it, giving the Whitecaps a 4-3 win. Starter Jordan John earned a no decision in the win, giving up three earned runs on five hits in 5 ? innings of work. Jose Valdez earned his first win of the season out of the bullpen, pitching two innings of shutout baseball while striking out two. Vasquez was the hero for the ‘Caps, going 1-for-3 with two drawn walks and the game-winning RBI.
