Gaynor Goes Yard in Erie Win (5/6 Recaps)

Erie continues to be on its hot streak in the Eastern League as the SeaWolves topped Akron on Monday after a great performance offensively by Wade Gaynor. Toledo was on the winning end of a pitching duel while Lakeland and West Michigan couldn't pull out the win.

Toledo and Rochester were in a pitcher's duel in the opening game of their series on Monday with the Mud Hens breaking a scoring tie in the eighth inning to top the Red Wings 1-0. Derek Hankins earned a no decision in a great start, throwing seven scoreless innings of four-hit baseball. Phil Coke earned the win in his first rehab appearance of the season with Toledo, giving up just one hit over an inning while striking out one. Bruce Rondon earned his fifth save of the season in the win. Argenis Diaz had a great night at the plate for Toledo, going 4-for-4 with a double and the game-winning RBI. Diaz outhit the rest of the lineup combined 4-2.

After falling to a 3-0 deficit after four innings against Akron on Monday, Erie scored seven unanswered runs, eventually topping Akron 7-4. Starting pitcher Victor Larez improved his record to 5-0 with the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Wade Gaynor had a big night with the bat for the SeaWolves, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs driven in in the win. Eugenio Suarez also notched a home run in the win.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
11-18, 6th in North Division

After jumping out to a 1-0 lead over Jupiter in the first inning Lakeland was held in check for the rest of the game, giving up three unanswered runs and falling to the Hammerheads 3-1. Jeff Ferrell earned a no decision in the start, giving up one earned run on three hits in five innings. Reliever Alex Burgos took his first loss of the season after giving up an earned run in 2 ? innings of work. Aaron Westlake was the lone Lakeland hitter to drive in a run, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI in the loss.

13-16, 4th in Eastern Division

A Quad Cities scored five runs in the eighth inning to end any hopes of a West Michigan comeback as the Whitecaps fell to the River Bandits 8-3 on Monday. Charlie Gillis earned the loss in a very short start after giving up an earned run on three hits in 2 ? innings on the mound. David Gonzalez had a solid night offensively for the ‘Caps out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
