McCann Powers Erie to Late Win (5/13 Recaps)

Erie continues to dominate the Western Division of the Eastern League, pushing its lead to five games after Monday's win over Reading in the series opener led by a big night from James McCann. Ramon Garcia earned his first win of the season as Toledo topped Indianapolis. Lakeland and West Michigan struggled in their games while the VSL Tigers couldn't generate offense in the season opener.

Toledo overcame a 3-0 deficit against Indianapolis by scoring six unanswered runs as the Mud Hens topped the Indians 6-3 on Monday. Starting pitcher Ramon Garcia earned his first win of the season with the win after giving up three earned runs on three hits in six innings of work. Bruce Rondon earned his sixth save of the season in the win. Danny Dorn had a big night offensively for Toledo, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs driven in and a walk. Ben Guez also notched a home run and drove in two runs.

Erie scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit against Reading as the SeaWolves topped the Fightin' Phils 5-4 in Monday's series opener. Patrick Cooper earned a no decision in the start, giving up three earned runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. Tyler Stohr earned the win in relief and Justin Souza tallied his sixth save of the season. James McCann had a big outing offensively for Erie, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs driven in in the win.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers

The bats struggled for Lakeland in its series opener against Palm Beach on Monday as the Flying Tigers could only tally two hits in the game, falling to the Cardinals 7-0. Starting pitcher Hudson Randall struggled on the mound in earning the loss, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 6 ? innings. Randall's ERA now sits at 11.88 in his limited time at Lakeland. Mike Hernandez and Brandon Loy each recorded hits in the loss.

West Michigan had a lead after the first inning but lost it after that as South Bend topped the Whitecaps 6-2 on Monday. Starting pitcher Jordan John earned his third loss of the year, giving up four earned runs on six hits in 4 ? innings of work. Devon Travis' 20-game hitting streak was snapped on Monday as the second baseman went 0-for-5 in the loss. The streak is good for second best in franchise history. Danry Vasquez was the lone ‘Caps hitter to tally an RBI, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run.

The Tigers struggled in their Venezuelan Summer League debut against the Mariners on Monday, notching just one run and falling in a 7-1 final. Starting pitcher Eduardo Jimenez earned a no decision in the loss, giving up one earned run on three hits in five innings of work. Eudis Idrogo earned his first loss of the season in relief after giving up six earned runs on seven hits in seven hits in 1 ? innings. Mario Sanjur drove in the lone run for the Tigers out of the designated hitter spot, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a triple.
